Why Drifting Mountain?

Watercolor painting of snow-covered mountain peaks under cloudy sky, signed by Timothy Slow.

Seien Roshi was inspired to name her organization Drifting Mountain upon seeing the water color painting by her brother, Timothy Sloan.

The mountains appear unmoving, — and yet the moment you look more closely, something within them begins to move. Their outlines soften into cloud. Their ridges dissolve into mist. Their peaks emerge, disappear, and re-emerge.

It is stillness that is alive — vibrant, breathing, responsive, awake.

The clouds swirl, the sky glows, the light shifts on the snow, and yet the whole scene rests in a quiet peace.
